Editorial Diversity Policy
This covers the content published on this site. Staffing is covered separately in the diversity staffing report.
Who the material addresses
Published copy addresses the reader directly and assumes nothing about their sex, ethnicity, age, nationality, family situation or health. Where an example is used, it comes from the client book rather than from an invented archetype.
Age
A large part of the readership is over fifty and has been told, in various polite ways, that they are finished. The editorial position here is specific and it matters. Age is used by hiring markets as a proxy for adaptability, energy and technology fluency. Writing about it as simple prejudice loses the argument and helps nobody, so the material addresses the proxy and how to answer it. Nothing published here offers reassurance about age, because these readers have had years of that and it insults them.
Coverage
The client book runs across technical and academic specialists, late-career executives, internationally mobile candidates, board and non-executive aspirants, private equity backed operators, and people who have to move without anybody knowing. Published material covers all of them rather than defaulting to the general C-suite reader.
Illustrative examples
Named clients quoted or described on this site are real, are named with written permission, and are drawn from the actual practice. That book is international and mixed by gender, discipline and nationality, and the examples published reflect it without being selected to make a point about representation.
What is not published
- No copy that treats any group as a category to be accommodated.
- No stereotyping in examples, including of majority groups.
- No claim that a structural disadvantage is a personal failing.
